A busy social calendar for fashion-forward folk

New York, Paris and Milan no longer have a lock on Fashion Week. Catwalk parades are staged all over Europe and Asia. Closer to home, Houston and San Francisco hosted mini versions of the shows held in Manhattan. Here at home, there are plenty of places to wear your wedge heels and babydoll dresses in the next week or so. Denver’s fashion-forward folk have a bunch of shows and parties planned, starting Friday: The Mixed Bag Festival, featuring entertainment and fashion shows with Funklectic, Peculiar Designs, Racheltai Designs and Giddyup, starts the show at the Oriental Theater in the Berkeley neighborhood on Friday. Oriental Theater, 4335 W. 44th Ave.; 7 p.m., with shows at 9 and 11 p.m.; $7 admission. mixedbagfestival.com. The Fabric Lab hosts “Fashion Inspired,” a show of art and clothing from more than 30 designers, staged in front of its store on Saturday. On April 4 the first of four shows of a “Project Runway”-style competition will be staged at Tamarac Square. Local designers are taking on challenges and vying for a trip to New York’s next Fashion Week. Tamarac Square, 7777 E. Last but not least, the Oriental Theater is the site for Seed, the April 7 Fashion Denver Spring Market. Organizer Brandi Shigley says 28 designers are participating this season, and more than a dozen are new to the event. She’s excited to present such new vendors as Andy’ Girls of Boulder, which makes cowboy boots, shoes, belts and bags.
